HEREFORD and Worcester Fire Service is warning residents of the risk of wildfires during warmer weather.
Station commander Alan Haley said: "We have been experiencing some dry, warm weather and it is only natural to want to go outdoors and enjoy it with family and friends but it is also important to stay fire aware when out and about.
Firefighters are advising residents to be vigilant and to report any fires spotted in the countryside immediately, rather than attempting to tackle it themselves.
Smokers are urged to extinguish cigarettes properly and people are encouraged to take rubbish with them, particularly glass bottles, which can magnify the sun's rays and start fires.
Residents are warned against starting fires in open countryside, and landowners are advised to ensure fire breaks are cut and well maintained.
Barbecues can also pose as a fire risk, so firefighters are advising only to use them in safe areas, away from dry vegetation, while supervised.
