A WOMAN was injured after a man attempted to steal her handbag in the early hours of this morning (Friday) in Kidderminster.

The woman was walking along St Mary's Ringway by St Mary's Church at about 2.50am when she was approached from behind by an unknown man.

He attempted to snatch her handbag from her.

The victim was then assaulted and received minor facial and stomach injuries, which resulted in bruising and swelling to her cheek and tenderness to her stomach. Ambulance service attended her home as a matter of precaution however hospital treatment was not required.

The attacker then left the scene towards the direction of Crossley junction. The victim's bag remained intact and nothing was stolen.

He is described as having a slight tanned completion, medium build, between 5ft 8in and 6ft in height. He was wearing a black coloured tracksuit.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the offence, or who may have seen anyone matching the description acting suspicious within the area. Anyone with information should call West Mercia Police on 101 quoting incident 44S of 21 October 2016.
