A PAIR of students have been chosen to be junior members of a prestigious academy of sciences.

Stanley Murray and Sebastian Banfield, from Bowbrook House School near Pershore, were selected from 500 students to become junior members of the New York Academy of Sciences.

The will join the Junior Academy, an elite group of students, companies and experts in science, technology and maths (STEM).

The academy is dedicated to designing innovative solutions to global challenges, such as how to provide people with access to clean water and how to reduce food waste caused by over-ripening.

Academy members team up to solve challenges twice a year. Before the challenges, there are four-week boot camps where students learn skills to tackle the problems.

This will culminate in a trip to New York in July next year to the second annual Global STEM Alliance Summit.
