STAFF and pupils at a Redditch school are celebrating after being named in the top 21 schools in the country for progress.

Saint Augustine’s Catholic High School ranked highly in the official Department for Education figures published on Thursday, January 19 and has been named as the top performing school in the Midlands.

The school is also the best Roman Catholic school outside London.

Principal Tony Quinn said: "It’s a wonderful endorsement to comprehensive education that the children of our community have consistently achieved through high quality teaching, superb support within the school, a conductive learning environment and rigorous desire to be successful. "These ingredients have earned this success.”

The figures used the new progress 8 measure to judge whether schools are performing adequately.

Saint Augustine’s Catholic High School recently placed 18th out of 4,495 schools nationally in the league tables
