THE National Trust is searching for volunteers to help out at two of their properties.

Help is needed at two sites in Herefordshire, Croft Castle and Berrington Hall, which both have interesting histories.

Croft Castle is looking for people who can help carry out tour guides around the 17th century manor house.

Berrington Hall is seeking volunteers who can tell immersive stories in the 18th century mansion and interact with visitors.

A volunteer open day will be held at Croft Castle on Tuesday, February 7, between 11am and 2pm.

A National Trust spokesman said: "[We] are currently looking for volunteers to help bring their stories to life.

"A willingness to get involved, desire for a new challenge and enthusiasm for the Trust’s cause is all that’s needed."

Croft Castle, near Leominster, has almost 1000 years of history, with the croft dating back to the Domesday Book.

"Castle volunteers have freedom to roam inside the castle, sharing stories they love with visitors," the spokesman said.

"Volunteers can start their day by greeting visitors on the front door and finish by revealing the captivating story behind a particular painting."

Helpers will also get the chance to speak about the recently opened servants' hall and housekeeper's room in Berrington Hall.

"This has vastly improved the visitor experience, allowing people to explore the mansion’s eighteenth-century origins from a different perspective," the spokesman added.

"Berrington are looking for volunteers to help interpret and bring these spaces to life for visitors."

Volunteers receive full training at Croft Castle and guides are able to choose which days and hours suit them.

Anyone who wants to get involved can email either berrington.volunteering@nationaltrust.org.uk or croftcastle@nationaltrust.org.uk.
