A TALENTED teen pianist from Bromsgrove has been awarded the first prize of £1,000 in a competition recognising young musicians.

Bromsgrove School pupil Jude Wynter, 15, beat the competition with his polished performances of Chopin and Ravel in the final of the Bromsgrove Young Musicians' Platform.

Jude played Nocturne in D flat major and Menuet Antique at the event on February 11, and was ranked the highest in the senior category for pupils aged 14 to 17.

Speaking after the competition, he said it felt 'really good' to win, adding: "It's a really good experience and it's been a really nice day, I've really enjoyed it. It was certainly close through all of it and everyone played really well."

Jude's school headteacher Peter Clague described him as "supremely talented and adept on a number of instruments" and the contest adjudicators noted that his playing was accomplished and delivered with passion.

Fellow student Joshua Osborn-Patel was also commended for his performance in the preliminary rounds of the contest.

Chairman of the Bromsgrove Young Musicians Platform Monica Toso said: "The standard of technical ability and individual interpretation by each of the ten finalists in the Bromsgrove Young Musicians’ Platform 2017 was of the highest standard and in many cases surpassed their actual age.

"Those in the audience expressed the view that they felt privileged to have listened to such amazing talent.”
