DISABLED children will be able to learn cooking skills thanks to a kitchen refurbishment made possible by a £5,000 grant.

Children who attend New Hope, based in Wells Road, Ronkswood, will now enjoy their favourite activity - preparing dishes and baking cakes - as well as learn independent living skills.

The charity received the donation from Santander Foundation, which offers Discovery Grants to UK registered charities for projects that help disadvantaged people in local communities.

Jean Wilson MBE, founder of New Hope Worcestershire, said: "New Hope is delighted to receive the grant from the Santander Foundation.

"The donation means that the children will now have a fully functioning kitchen in which to prepare their dishes and bake cakes, which is something we find they particularly enjoy."

New Hope provides a stimulating environment for children with disabilities and complex care needs to play and learn freely.

Its services are offered on school holidays and on Saturdays.

James Crawford, branch director at Santander’s Worcester branch said: "The Santander Foundation makes hundreds of donations every year to good causes throughout the UK.

"Our branch is committed to playing a key part in the community and we are delighted to be supporting New Hope Worcestershire, and hope the donation makes a real difference to local children."
