CAR thieves rammed a stolen Land Rover through a gate and into a field at Upton before abandoning the car and fleeing on foot.

The Land Rover Freelander was seen with the occupants acting suspiciously in Wheatley Lane, Upton late on Tuesday evening.

After being disturbed by a resident, the driver of the stolen car through a 15-foot galvanised-metal gate, causing damage to the gate and post.

It was then driven through several fields, ploughing through the barbed wired fence of a pheasant coop in the corner of another field, causing damage to the fence and eventually coming to rest nearby.

The suspects then escaped on foot and have not been traced.

The Land Rover was displaying false plates but has since been identified as one that was stolen from Bromsgrove on Tuesday, January 31.
