DOZENS of Redditch youngsters channelled their inner Leonardo da Vincis and Michelangelos to compete in a competition to design a welcome sign at St Stephen's Church.

Entrants were asked to create a piece of artwork which displays a sense of 'welcome', whilst reflecting on the themes of love, faith, peace, hope and compassion, and incorporating the words 'Welcome to St Stephen's Church'.

After displaying the art in the lady chapel of St Stephen’s Church for a whole month, the winners are set to be announced at a special prize giving ceremony on Thursday, March 30.

A church spokesman said: "The response and the standard of the work was inspirational and the judging panel had an incredibly difficult job making a decision.

"We have been overjoyed with the response to the competition and the subsequent exhibition and we are looking forward to a very special event on March 30."

BBC Radio WM presenter Daz Hale will presenting the prizes, which include a trophy, Wi-fi tablet, Amazon Kindle and a voucher to 'name a star' from The Star Name Registry.

Everyone is welcome to attend the event at the church on Church Green at 2pm.
