A LUCKY mum is looking forward to being presented with a very special necklace designed by her daughter.

Harriet Murphy, who goes to RGS the Grange, in Claines, near Worcester, entered the winning design in a Mother's Day competition run by Rock Lobster jewellers, in Worcester.

The youngster was one of more than 100 hopefuls who entered the contest, and she will be presented with the bespoke piece at an event in store today (Saturday) – just in time for Mother's Day.

Linda Preston, who owns the shop, said: "We have had some really colourful entries, really quirky designs – some really professional designs as well.

"They were fantastic. It has been lovely.

"I think any mum who received something that their child has designed would be thrilled, it is quite an emotional thing to do."

Harriet's design has been painstakingly brought to life by goldsmith Julia Johnston, who has stayed as close to the drawing as possible.

The finished piece is made from silver, with amethyst and garnet beads and features a small bird.

There will also be prizes for second and third place, while 12 runners up will also be rewarded.

And every single child who drew a design will receive a small gift for taking part.

Everyone who entered has been invited to a party, to take place at 3pm today. There will be prize-giving, drinks and cakes for guests.

The competition was open to youngsters aged between five and 16 years old.

Children were asked to come up with a design inspired by their mums, drawn on a piece of A4 paper and submitted by the end of February.

It is hoped that the competition will run again next year.
