NON-VOTERS in Bromsgrove will play a vital role in June’s General Election, if they chose to vote, as figures reveal they made up around 30 per cent of the district’s constituents last time around.

Conservative MP Sajid Javid was re-elected in 2015, after receiving 28,133 votes and a majority of 16,529.

But 21,092 constituents failed to vote (including spoiled ballots), meaning non-voters could be the difference between another Conservative win and a new district MP in just over two months’ time.

An interactive map created by website CARTO, shows how the number of non-voters exceeded the number of votes cast for the winning party in more than half of UK constituencies, including Wyre Forest.

The Electoral Reform Society said many people felt their vote wouldn’t make a difference.

Liberal Democrat Neil Lewis has announced he will be standing against Mr Javid in June, while Labour and UKIP are still yet to announce their parliamentary candidate.
