A HOLE has appeared in a road in Kinver, causing the area to be closed off by authorities.

Staffordshire County Council received reports from the public about the hole which has appeared in Stone Lane, near to the junction with High Street.

Highways bosses believe the hole was caused by water washing away material beneath the road surface, but have arranged for further investigations to take place.

The road has since been temporarily closed “for safety reasons” and the council expects the work to be carried out on Saturday (June 24).

Helen Fisher, cabinet support member for highways at Staffordshire County Council, said: “Following reports from the public about the hole in the road, our highway inspectors attended the site and have arranged for repairs to be carried out.

“The affected area has been temporarily closed off for safety reasons and once the work is complete it will be reopened.

“It looks like the problem was caused by water washing away material beneath the road surface, however, our inspectors will be carrying out further investigations to find out the exact cause.”
