A FATHER-OF-TWO who attacked another man in the doorway of his Bromsgrove home has been jailed.

Jonathan Ratcliff, of Burcot Lane, 'had a grudge' against Kaine Coventry, and enlisted the help of a friend as he visited the victim's home nearby, knocked him to the ground and punched and kicked him in the head.

The pair had a long history of disagreements and argued again on the night of the attack on February 28 this year, Worcester Crown Court heard on Tuesday (July 25).

As Mr Coventry opened the door to his flat at around 1.30am, Ratcliff knocked him to the floor and attacked him until his friend, who has not been prosecuted, told him 'that's enough'.

He was left with cuts and bruises to his face and a dislodged tooth needing emergency treatment, Mr Walters, prosecuting, told the court.

Police officers stationed a short distance away from the scene quickly arrested Ratcliff, who was found with blood on his trainers.

The 35-year-old pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm.

Peter Fortune, defending, said Ratcliff, who suffers from ADHD, had let his temper get the better of him.

He had previously asked Bromsgrove District Council to move him to a new address because he knew something bad would happen if he stayed in the area.

Ratcliff had been in prison for the first time while on remand, which had been a 'significant lesson' for him, having been beaten up, left with two fractured ribs and placed on the vulnerable person's wing.

"He is living in fear of being attacked again," Mr Fortune said.

Judge Nicholas Cole said it was 'lucky' the victim's injuries were not life-threatening, as they often are when someone is kicked in the head.

"Whatever happened in the past, nothing justifies this sort of violence," he added in sentencing.

Ratcliff was sentenced to 12 months in prison, less the five months he had already spent on remand.
