MARY Stevens Hospice is calling on members of the community to showcase their creative talents at their annual Summer Fayre.

A large part of the event – taking place on Saturday, September 2 – will be a public-entry competition, with no less than 37 different judging classes in 10 different categories, for budding enthusiasts and amateurs.

Categories range from baking to flower arranging, as well as veg growing and recycling. There is also a separate category for any children who would like to create something over the summer holidays to enter into the show.

The full-list of categories and details on how to enter can be found online at www.marystevenshospice.co.uk/summer-fayre-best-show-tent.

All categories will be judged by representatives of local businesses and organisations, with prizes available to the three best entries in each class. A judging committee from the hospice will then decide on an overall ‘best in show’ entry from the 10 category winners.

Amanda Bowen, deputy head of fundraising, said: “Our competition tent is the perfect opportunity for enthusiasts and amateurs alike to showcase their talent and have a bit of fun, while helping raise money for the families who rely on our support.

“Our categories include knitting, handicraft, gardening, baking, photography, card-making, home brewing and even recycling, so there really is something for everyone to have a crack at.

“So if you've got a big carrot, we’d love to see it at our fayre on September 2.”

Jemma Lloyd, founder of Iced Jems and bake-off judge, said: “I can’t wait to be a part of Mary Stevens Hospice Summer Fayre again.

“It’s lovely to be able to work with such a lovely local charity, we regularly see the impact they have on our community and the hospice is often mentioned in store by customers who have been impacted one way or another.

“It'll be so exciting to see all the baking talent in the baking competition and spend the day with the lovely community that supports the Hospice.

“I think the most difficult thing will be having to wait to eat all the fantastic entries.”

The Summer Fayre starts at 11am with a large parade through the streets of Oldswinford. Tickets cost £2 for adults and £1 for under 16s.

Competition entrants must complete a form which can be downloaded online, and pay £2 to submit an entry.
