A CEREMONY of celebration took place a Leominster Meeting Centre which was saved from closure.

Members, friends and trustees of the centre, which supports people with dementia and their carers, opened the doors to more than 70 visitors last Wednesday.

Those in attendance had the opportunity to participate in screen printing in the morning and a tea dance led by Rachel Freeman in the afternoon.

Joy Valentini, whose domestic care agency Ab Fab Care Agency took over the centre in September, said: "The centre has been open for nearly two years and is going from strength to strength.

"In recognition of this and to say thank you to supporters a ceremony of celebration took place, announced by the town crier."

Members and carers shared their experiences of attending the Meeting Centre and guest speakers included Lady Susanna McFarlane, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Herefordshire; Councillor Jenny Bartlett and Councillor John Stone.

Yvie George, who was previously the activity co-ordinator at the centre, read a poem entitled ‘The Magic that makes a Meeting Centre' and a cake, created by Rita Graham, was cut.

The centre is open every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10am to 3pm.
