A WOMAN has spoken of her "horror" after a digger was allegedly driven over her mother's grave at a Worcester cemetery.

Jane Griffiths, of Grenville Road, Dines Green, visits her mother's grave at St Johns Cemetery, in McIntyre Road daily.

During a recent visit, she was was stunned to find track marks over her mother's grave and that flowers and ornaments had been moved and placed back in the wrong place.

The 61-year-old said: "I don't know what I expected -I think I expected for them to be as horrified as me that it happened."

"It is just the fact that they have taken everything off her grave, gone over it with a digger and then put everything back.

"But they haven't put it back properly. I expected they would have rang me to tell me what happened.

Since the incident, which is thought to have took place on Tuesday, November 7, Mrs Griffiths has tried to contact the cemetery to complain but despite several calls and answerphone messages she has not had a reply.

Mrs Griffiths, who describe the act as "disrespectful" said nothing like this had ever happened before.

Mary Mumslow was laid to rest at the cemetery in May 2014.

A Worcester City Council spokesman said: "We would like to offer our sincere apologies to Mrs Griffiths for the damage that has been caused to some of the grassed areas at St John’s Cemetery.

"We accept that the standards that have been delivered are not acceptable and will take steps to ensure this type of incident will not happen again."
