WORCESTER stepped back in time as 200 re-enactors showcased the city’s history to thousands of people.

Re-enactors dressed from Ancient Greeks to Second World War soldiers and doctors thrilled visitors over the weekend.

The annual Living History event, organised by The Worcester Re-enactors in partnership with The Commandery featured entertainment from a Punch and Judy show to a Worcester Militia Parade.

Firing displays through the ages, historical treatments with doctors and a standard Civil War lunch laid out as part of the new Civil War exhibition which opened last year.

The Living History event was part of the Love Worcester Heritage Festival, which takes place runs until Sunday February 25.

There was also Living History displays to see in Friar Street, Tudor House and Greyfriars.

Sarah Bourne, events organiser at The Commandery said: “There was everything from the Greeks, the Vikings and the Romans to the Second World War.

“It is always very exciting to work with the Worcestershire Re-Enactors and they put on a great show.”

Mick Jones, acting as a German doctor in the Second World War, came from Portsmouth for his first trip to Worcester.

He said: “It is amazing here and I am looking forward to coming back next year if they let me. I want to keep doing this until I can’t stand up anymore.

Brian Bullock, event organiser at Worcestershire Re-enactors, dressed as a French Napoleonic solider said: “We always really enjoy doing the Living History event and I thought we had a great range for everybody.

“It has been busy and I hope that numbers will top last year where we had our highest number of visitors.”
