A MEMORIAL to a Woodsetton man who was a founding father of the industrial revolution is one of dozens of projects hoping to get a cash boost from Dudley Council’s community forums next week.
Friends of Wren’s Nest Nature Reserve are asking the Castle and Priory, St James’s and St Thomas’s community forum for £2,528.04 towards a total project cost of £72,000 to prepare a site on the corner of Sedgley Road for
a memorial to iron master Abraham Darby.
The group is also applying to the Gornal, Upper Gornal and Woodsetton community forum for £5,674.80 to cover the costs of the concrete foundations for the memorial.
Other applications include money for defibrillators to be used in community centres and funds to help promote sporting events.
Organisations can make multiple applications to each forum - such as Dudley Community Church, which is applying for £50,000 for new kitchen facilities with 10 separate claims of £5,000 to each forum.
Each forum is allocated £10,000 a year by Dudley Council and can carry over unspent cash, leading to some holding balances of more than £20,000.
