MALVERN'S cemetery, off Madresfield Road, came under the spotlight when a judge from the Heart of England in Bloom competition paid a visit.

Although the town as a whole is taking a year off from the competition, the cemetery has been entered in the green spaces and cemeteries category.

Town mayor Cynthia Palmer, accompanied by council staff, gave bloom judge Mark Wiltshire a conducted tour of the cemetery, showing all the hard worth that the operations team has been carrying out over recent months to get the cemetery to the highest possible standard.

Lyndsey Davies of the council said: "The cemetery not only boasts Victorian architecture and Malvern’s historic graves, but also demonstrates environmental responsibilities and includes a wildlife meadow.

"We will now have to wait until September to find out how we have done."
