AN 'everyday superhero' from Bromsgrove has been chosen to join celebrities in an annual sports event.

Ben O'Brien will form part of Team Fiona Cranswick in the Celebrity Superhero Tri at the Dorney Lake in Windsor on August 18.

A total of 30 teams will undertake one stage of the tri each - a 150m swim, 3k bike ride, or a 1k push/rush.

Superhero Series founder and Paralympian Sophia Warner said: “This year’s event plans to be bigger and better with more Celebrities Team Captains from sport, entertainment and the military competing alongside Everyday Superheroes.

"The competition winners are those who shared their superpowers and why they thought the team captains would choose them.

"This year we had over 200 applications and we were blown away by the response. I’m really pleased to be able to give 50 Everyday Superheroes the chance of competing alongside their idols - who have been inspired by their team mates training already!”

Ben will be doing the 3km cycle, team captain will complete the 150m swim, while fellow competition winner Jess Barnes will do the 1km push/run.

The 23-year-old has autism, learning difficulties and speech and language difficulties, and has been training with the Special Olympics for about 13 years.

The npower event is the only sports series dedicated to the UK's 13.3 million people with disabilities and long-term injuries.
