AN appeal has gone out for donations to help a Redditch church finish an ambitious building project, that has been 20 years in the making.

After more than two decades of meetings and discussions, St Philip's Church in Webheath has started to build an annex which will provide much needed toilets, a kitchen and cafe area, and an office and meeting space.

Work is well under way on the community annex project, which is currently at phase three: glazing, and fitting out of the building.

In January the church was given £5,000 from Allchurches Trust which means windows and doors can be installed and they can start to work on the inside.

However, more is needed to finished the long-planned project.

A spokesman from the church said they are still looking for cash to finish the build.

"The church annex will be an important community resource for many years to come," they said.

"We are asking all members of the congregation and anyone with a concern for the development of the church of St Philip's to help us raise the outstanding money to complete the work; this can be by personal donation or fundraising events.

"If we all pull together we can get the annex built and completed."

During the long history of the church there have been many additions to the original building, including a vestry, chancel screen and updating the original pipe organ

It is hoped the annex will serve the community of Webheath by providing a space for a whole range of activities, events, classes and clubs.
