ONCE again, pancakes soared over Malvern when the town's Rotary Club held its annual pancake race.

Now in its 12th year, the event has become a popular date in the town's calendar.

Unlike last year, the weather stayed fine for the event, which was held on Tuesday.

Held as usual in Priory Park behind Malvern Theatres, the event attracted a a good turnout of both teams and spectators.

It followed the hallowed format, were a series of pancake races for young children preceded the main event.

The elite race, for adult teams, was won by Morgan Aero Racers, from the town's iconic car company, repeating their victory of last year.

And the winners of the veteran race was won by the Pancanmakers, again a repeat of last year's result.

The prize for fancy dress prize was awarded to the team from Macmillans Rock Choir.

And the prize for the team receiving the most sponsorship award will be determined when all the money raised at the event is collected and tallied.

A Rotary spokesman said: " Funds raised will go to charities nominated by the teams and to the Rotary Club's End Polio Now campaign helping eliminate polio globally."

"Since 1987, the number of polio cases has dropped from 1,000 a day to about 60 a year, now mainly arising in Pakistan and Afghanistan, plus a minor outbreak in Nigeria.

"We also want to say a grateful thank-you to our sponsors Waitrose and Morgan Motors."
