Car crashes into pub

9:22am Saturday 3rd May 2008

A man suffered head injuries when the car he was driving crashed into a pub in Quarry Bank.

The New Inn pub escaped serious damage thanks to two road signs which took the brunt of the force of the car that left the road in Queen Street.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the scene at 3.35am this morning (Saturday).

The driver, thought to be around age 20, had suffered a head injury and was disorientated. He was immobilised using a neck collar and spinal board and taken to Russells Hall Hospital.

Two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and an incident support officer were sent to the scene after a call saying a car had crashed into a pub.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "After the initial call, a paramedic who has specialist training in urban search and rescue was also dispatched but was cancelled when crews arrived to find the pub had suffered only minor damage.

"The car had left the road on a corner. Two road signs had been almost destroyed in front of the pub.

"The driver of the car, a man estimated to be around 20 years old had managed to get himself out of the vehicle."
