A FUNDRAISING night in memory of a Brierley Hill man who died in a tragic boating accident has raised £2,500.

Richard Perry from Victoria Road drowned after a holiday with friends went tragically wrong in the Isle of Wight last July.

His devastated family have vowed to keep Richard's memory alive and his uncle David Perry recently took part in the London Marathon to raise cash for the RNLI.

To help reach his target of £5,000 his mother Margaret organised a fish and chip supper with a silent auction on Saturday April 26 at Russells Hall Social Club.

Some the prizes on offer were donated from geoff Hill electricals, Abbey Coachcraft from Cradley Heath and Orbit Transmission from Cradley Heath.

Margaret said: "The fish and chip supper was a great success, enjoyed by all of Richard's family and friends and we raised a total of £2,500 to be split between the RNLI and the West Midlands Boys brigade camping centre North Wales.

"Many thanks to all attended for your support and helping us to keep Richards memory alive.

"A special thanks you to those who donated fantastic auction lots and raffle prizes."

The family wanted to give something back to the RNLI who helped to search for Richard when the accident happened.

RNLI rely on voluntary donations due to it receiving no money from the Government.
