AT the recent AGM of Soroptimist International Stourbridge Ruth Longville took over from Su Roxburgh as President for the coming year.

Ruth is following in the footsteps of her mother Maggie Bayliss who was club President in April 2001.

Ruth became a member during her mother's Presidential year and immediately took office as Press and Publicity Officer for the club.

The Theme Ruth has chosen for her Presidential year is "Sow the Seed and Watch it grow" which is loosely based on children and young people but also embracing the opportunities that Soroptimism has for all its members.

The charities the club will support this year are the Birth Abnormalities Research Fund (a charity which supports research into congenital abnormalities that are diagnosed ante-natally or at birth), the George Coller Memorial Fund (a charity in memory of three-year-old George Coller who passed away in his sleep after a severe asthma attack) and Project Sierra (the Soroptimist Quadrennial Project in association with Home and Homes for Children begun in 2007). Alongside this Ruth will be hosting a number of social events throughout the year.

Ruth, who will combine her new role with the demands of looking after three children and her home said, "I am looking forward to being the 61st President of Soroptimist Stourbridge and embracing the challenges that come with the role.

"I am also looking forward to working alongside members of the Club on new projects over the coming months".

Soroptimist International is for women of all ages, particularly younger women in business and the professions who would like the opportunity to meet likeminded women from a variety of backgrounds.
