IT was a day to remember on Tuesday (April 22) for children and staff at Stourbridge's Rufford Primary School when Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall stopped by for a visit.

Eleven-year-olds - head boy Joshua Oakley and head girl Sophia Ahmed - presented the Duchess with a posy of flowers as flag-waving youngsters lined the playground to greet her.

And one excited pupil simply couldn't resist and jumped up and hugged a surprised Camilla, who was visiting the school to find out more about its work with the borough's branch of the National Osteoporosis Society.

HRH, president of the charity, chatted to pupils and staff about their lessons on the importance of healthy bones - following an earlier visit to Birmingham with husband Prince Charles.

The Duchess also met members of the Dudley and Districts support group, which has donated Healthy Bones packs to all schools across the borough to educate youngsters on the need to exercise and eat healthily to help prevent osteoporosis.

Ken Strike, National Osteoporosis Society volunteer and ex-chairman of the Dudley group, said: "We were thrilled to have our president visit and see the work that has been done with the Dudley Health Promoting Schools Service."

Councillor Liz Walker, Dudley's cabinet member for children's services, added: "She's been wonderful. She was genuinely interested and very engaging."

Jane Porter, Dudley Council's assistant director of children's services, said: "She's been outstanding. It was a real celebration for the school."
