THIEVES have stolen £400 worth of asparagus from land in Pershore Road, Evesham, police have revealed.
Witnesses are now being sought to the theft, which took place between 11pm yesterday and 6am today.
Officers believe it is unlikely that the asparagus will be offered for sale locally because potential outlets with existing suppliers would naturally be suspicious about any offer from an un-known source.
"It is far more likely that the asparagus has been taken some distance away and is being sold by those who took it using their own outlet, possibly a stall," said a spokesman.
Anyone with information can contact officers on 08457 444 888, quoting 159S/130508. Information can also be given - anonymously - to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

This is the thin end of the wedge - wait until they have built houses on nearly all our farmland and food gets REALLY short!
Then the fun will start in earnest!
This is a sign of the times - it's probably gone to London and that Jamie Oliver!
