A WORCESTER group campaigning against the introduction of identity cards has reacted to an investigation showing how easy it is to get fake documents.
On Wednesday, the BBC 10 O'clock News aired the results of an investigation during which a a forged driving licence in the name of Jacqui Smith - the Home Secretary and Redditch MP - was obtained.
NO2ID, a UK wide campaign against ID cards, said the programme was just a hint of the chaos ahead if the Government proceeds with the nationalisation and centralisation of all personal ID in the Home Office.
Mark Walker, Worcester co-ordinator of NO2ID, said: "The coming of the National Identity Register will further intensify the problems with identity fraud.
"For it only takes a single corrupt bureaucrat or equally determined hacker with access to this database for he/she to provide enough information to steal a UK citizen's identity for life.
"If your biometric data is stolen you can't get new fingerprints or irises.
"There is a real danger of innocent peoples lives being ruined if the National Identity Scheme is not stopped."
