Funseekers flock to big day in village

ABOUT 2,000 people turned out for Wolverley Carnival and fete on Saturday when the theme was “1960s America”.

The carnival procession was headed by Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Authority and was led by The Severn Siders Marching Band followed by the carnival queen, princess and rosebud in a fabulously decorated jeep.

It included seven floats from Wolverley, nine Minis and many other vehicles as well as walkers and the Severn Area Rescue Association and West Mercia Police also taking part.

The floats were judged by the carnival queen, Sandie Rickson, Warren Jones and a representative from Costcutters. The senior float winners were The Queen’s Head, Wolverley and junior float winners were Wolverley Sebright Cygnets.

The fete was opened by the carnival queen and live music was provided throughout the afternoon by The Strawberry Jam Band.

There were about 45 stalls/activities including archery, a bouncy castle, wall climbing, coconut shy, face painting, a merry go round, seven stalls by Wolverley CE Secondary School, ‘The Wolverley Stocks’ and others.

The arena events included displays of morris dancing followed by maypole dancing by Wolverley Sebright VA Primary School pupils.

There was also a dog obedience demonstration and entertainment from Live American Wrestling.
