I am constantly appalled when I see people parking across the ramps in the pavement that are there to make life easier for wheelchair users, people with disabilities, young mothers with prams and elderly people with shopping sholleys.

Do people not understand the concept of what the purpose is, of these ramps, and how difficult life is already for the elderly and disabled to get about. Having, in the past, been in a wheelchair I know how very inconsiderate some people can be, with total disregard not only for the people in the wheelchair but also for the person trying to steer.

I myself am a blue badge holder and class it as a privilege not a given, we are provided with these badges to aide our disability, not for free parking, not to abuse parking restrictions but to enable us to park closer but safely to our intended destination thus making life a little bit easier. On the 15 January I was even more shocked to see a car with a blue badge parked across one of these ramps on the Stourbridge High Street, which in it’s self I thought rather ironic! How pleased I was to see on my return that the car had been awarded a parking ticket for the crime. My praise goes out to the traffic warden that gave this ticket and long may they continue to be as vigilant, it strikes me that it’s the only way these inconsiderate drivers will learn and certainly bluebadge holders should know better.
