UKIP’s Paul Brothwood is disgusted that his opponent took a donation from Mr. Blair. Before flinging mud however Brothwood should have got a few facts straight.

Whatever your view on the war in Iraq, it is undeniable that people across the world from Kosovo to County Down have Blair to thank for their security and livelihoods today.

People of my generation started school - in wooden huts with shared textbooks - at the beginning of Blair’s tenure when the NHS was on its knees. We saw with our own eyes the public services transformed over 13 years. There was nothing inevitable about this, it was the choice that Blair’s three Governments made to invest in our futures.

People in the Black Country didn’t seem to mind him too much either.

Local people in Dudley, Stourbridge, and Halesowen returned Blair’s MPs three times: no small feat given the 18 years of Conservative dominance that had preceded.

What is for certain is that I’d take him any day over Nigel Farage, who has said it should be okay for employers to discriminate on racial grounds.
