I am saddened that the state of our streets did not achieve greater prominence during the recent election campaign; rich or poor, the civilised man has nowhere to go to escape the filth and the mess.
Despite a concession some weeks ago by Cllr Gaye Partridge, Cabinet member for Housing, that some targets may be “too easy”, there has been no official move towards a policy of ‘same day disposal’ of Housing or Trade Waste. I have captured images of Housing Department waste left for several days – two bags of rubbish were left on Highgate Road for a week up to and including ‘Election Eve’ and a garish DMBC ‘blue bag’ was left in full view on the Bridgnorth Road throughout the Bank Holiday weekend.
What sort of signal is this sending to our yobs?
