Over say the last 6 years while floral displays have been funded there have been cuts to parks and leisure services. Now it has come to a crunch, but the council tax payers have lost that funding never to be restored.
From a council worker it was learnt that some hours have been cut and others workers not replaced. The £12,000 quoted by Mr Harcourt in the paper could not be all the costs as the council stated £25,000 from budget.
Stourbridge has had a good run at the ‘In Bloom’. Well done , but let all of Stourbridge have some funds for the verges , trees and shrubs that the residents live with all the year round.
The council insist that should a resident cut down a tree it has to be replaced with another. DMBC does not follow its own guidelines.
It is a pity that some of the ’savings’ from not having a temporary flush of colour in the centre could not be better spent replanting spaces around all of Stourbridge with flowering trees and shrubs.
