I WAS a children's Librarian at Stourbridge in my younger day's and was horrified to read that decades of poor stock management is being alleged by present library bosses to be the reason for so many books to be thrown out.

I can assure the Stourbridge News that in my day, returned books needing repair went straight under the counter for attention, books needing binding were sent to a book binding firm for attention and new books lists were regularly issued.

I do feel that in this computerized age it is particularly important that children should be encouraged to read and that library staff should have time to help them in their choice.
