Another blow for our forgotten town

THE Council Tax payers of Stourbridge received another slap in the face this week when it was announced that half a million pounds had been spent on improving the gym at Dudley Leisure Centre following the half a million pounds spent on Halesowen Leisure Centre.

Great for the residents of Dudley and Halesowen while the people of Stourbridge have to put up with the rundown and squalid facilities at the Crystal Leisure Centre.

What have our elected representatives done about it? Do they attend any meetings?

If they do they are obviously happy to vote for Dudley and Halesowen before Stourbridge.

Do they care about leisure facilities in Stourbridge? Do they care about Stourbridge at all?

I have played squash at the Crystal since it opened and have watched it gradually decline with any money spent going on maintaining rather than improving facilities.

I used to swim there as well but gave up as the 25 metre pool is often closed at short notice and the changing rooms are unhygienic (the most polite word I could think of).

Time and time again the residents of Stourbridge are left as the Borough's poor relations while still paying the same rates of Council Tax.

I suggest the councillors who represent the wards in and around Stourbridge finally get off their backsides and finally do something for the people of the town they represent-improving the Crystal Leisure Centre would be a good place to start.

Ian Powell, Amblecote
