I WAS sorry to read about the cancer deaths near a mast in Kingswinford.
Several studies indicate health risks from the microwaves given off by mobile masts.
A person living near a phone-mast would be exposed to this radiation for 24 hours a day, even when sleeping.
The government's Stewart Report said that children have thinner skulls than adults and are more at potential risk from microwaves.
It cautioned masts not to be sited near schools.
The group "Mast Action UK" help people fight against badly sited masts near houses.
Visit: www.mastaction.co.uk On 29 June 02, "The New Scientist" reported that microwave radiation from mobile phones affects human cells in culture by hindering the cells ability to self-destruct when damaged. Damaged cells normally stop before reproducing, but some of the damaged cells exposed to microwaves speeded up growth instead of stopping. This could have implications for the spread of cancer cells.
A study also showed a decrease in white blood cells in people living near phone masts. White blood cells are vital for the immune system.
Many countries such as USA, Sweden, New Zealand, Italy etc. won't allow masts nearer than 500 metres of houses and schools.
The main thing is to avoid masts being sited near these.
Best wishes
A Wills, Ruislip
