Glass debacle’s sign of decline

I HAPPENED to be waiting for a call at about 6pm on Thursday, June 18.

I turned on the TV. The Parliamentary Channel was recording an adjournment debate about Stourbridge and the Glass Museum.

It was a tale about premature decisions, evasions and incompetent communication. It did no service to the reputation of Dudley MBC.

Apparently our local and national government representatives aren’t on terms that pull together in our interests.

Then you report that the unique course in glass manufacture at Stourbridge College is to close.

Sad words when the words Stourbridge and glass are universally linked.

Since Stourbridge became an administrative component of Dudley it has been a story of decline. The ratio of investment in our area to income from its rates would appear to compare unfavourably with areas nearer Dudley.

While raiding our family silver, they can’t even maintain our park gates.

Absolutely spot-on. They are invest some £270m into Dudley to try and regenerate the town! What about Stourbridge? Yet again, we are ignored with mealymouth retoric etc.

Absolute disgrace...
