Ampthill and District 44, Stourbridge 12

STOURBRIDGE started the game in the same manner in which they sunk Stockport by over 60 points the previous week, writes Nick Pullen.

Despite shipping an early try when Ampthill's England Sevens scrum half Kevin Barrett stormed over after four minutes for Joe Tarrant to convert, Stour started to get the upper hand.

Scrum half Jake Nash snapped up a try on 12 minutes when forcing his way over from short range.

Stour then shocked the league leaders by going in front when No.8 Drew Harper made a decisive break before sending Nathan Geekie over to score with Gary Dipple adding the conversion.

Spirited Stour held onto their 12-7 lead by half time and could consider themselves unlucky not to increase their score.

But the second half was a completely different story.

Ampthill regrouped and simply blew Stour away with a stunning second half display.

Flanker Matt Burke forced his way over for a try on 45 minutes.

Four minutes later, full back Karim Lynch added another try to put Ampthill 17-12 ahead.

Tarrant increased the lead with a penalty before Ampthill applied the killer-blow when replacement forward Jake McCloud secured their fourth and bonus point try in the 59th minute.

Stour had remained in contention up to that point but completely fell away in the final quarter.

Hooker Alex Bloisi made it 30-12 with Ampthill's fifth try which Tarrant converted.

And there was still time for left wing Gareth Clarke and centre Jon Raven to secure further tries, Tarrant supplying another conversion for good measure.
