CARL Douglas has moved to strengthen his backroom team at Dudley Kingswinford.

The director of rugby has brought in Adam Blackford and Tom Huggins to boost the coaching set-up as the club looks to bounce back from relegation.

Both men, who have been coaching locally for the RFU recently, will take up their roles once the season has finished and will play a big part in DK's pre-season programme.

Douglas said: "I am really pleased that Adam and Tom have decided to join. This is an indication of our desire to put the club right back where it belongs. It also puts the development of players right at the heart of what we want to achieve."

Meanwhile, Douglas is keen to end a difficult season with a positive performance.

DK will take on Sandbach at Heathbrook this Saturday looking for only their second league win of the campaign.

Despite the club already suffering back-to-back relegations, the director of rugby thinks the fixture will offer a chance for his players to demonstrate the steady progress being made by the squad.

He said: “We want to end the season well and give the club a good send-off with the season coming to an end."

“We have a host of different events going on at the club at the weekend, including an under-16 game and a Ladies’ Day Lunch, so it would be great to lead the way with a good result.

“It is also important to end well in the hope we can carry that into next season when we will be aiming to bounce straight back.”

DK go into the game after a 87-24 away defeat against Peterborough Lions last Saturday.

“It was a challenging week leading up to the game. We had a lot of injuries and absentees so had to play with a much-changed side, added Douglas and knew that was going to be difficult.

“They were a good side and played a wide game, which was something we struggled to come with.

“That said, it was the first time we have scored four tries and a bonus point. It shows the progress that is still being made by the players, even at this late stage of the season.”
