ALTHOUGH there was a break in the regional series, Halesowen riders stayed busy with a full programme of racing last week.

The ever popular Friday night track league, sponsored by Wenlock Springs Water, defied the rain to enjoy a full programme of racing with an ever increasing numbers of racers taking to the Halesowen track.

Elsewhere, Halesowen continued its run of success, with Izzy Whiteley landing another win for the club and the fifth for the team this season.

Racing in damp conditions at the Stourport closed road circuit, Whiteley got the better of a bunch sprint to record her first win on Tuesday night.

Charles Walker, chasing his Category One licence, went in search of more points at Wellingborough in his most challenging event this year. In a very strong field he added to his season points with a fine 19th place in this 81-mile East Midlands Race.

Anthony Moye of Sprint Bikes took the win. Earlier in the week Walker continued his run of strong form, taking second in the Stourport circuit race, with Halesowen Academy team mate Jo Hobbs in eighth.

Junior rider Nick Clayton tried his hand at time trialling in the week, covering the 10-mile course in a very quick 22 minutes and 20 seconds, giving an average speed of 27mph.

This weekend will see Nick and Oli Dighton take on a new two-day event run in Cheltenham specifically for juniors.
