KEWFORD Eagles are celebrating after four girls from their under-10s team were signed up by Wolverhampton Wanderers as part of the FA England Talent Pathway development programme.

The girls are ecstatic with the news and are really looking forward to next season.

Ellie Grosvenor, Olivia Malpass, Abbey Beresford and Alice Eva have all been snapped up by the Wolves.

All four girls started playing at Kewford Eagles last summer at weekly football sessions and progressed to join the team, playing their football in the Mercian Junior Fortis League.

With games every week, the girls have had a great opportunity to develop their football with young and enthusiastic coach Rhys Edwards.

Kewford Eagles have a strong focus on individual player development and are delighted with the news that the girls are going to such a prestigious local club.

“The girls have a great opportunity at the Wolves to take advantage of some of the highest standard of coaching on offer,” said girls’ secretary Matt Adamson.

“It’s been a real team effort with all of the girls pulling together to have a great first season, with coaches from all age groups at Kewford chipping in to get the girls the best start we could give them. We’re very proud of all of the girls in the team who have really enjoyed their first season and we’re looking forward to bringing on another group for next season and filling the spaces in our under-11s team.”

Kewford Eagles are the largest grassroots club in the area with their own £1.2m private football facility in Wall Heath, Kingswinford.

Lynn Boleyn MBE, charity trustee and club welfare officer said “Kewford has a large girls football section with teams ranging from under-10 to adult. This season the club has won Mercian Leagues at under-12 and under-14, the Birmingham County Women’s League and has also picked up a merit shield and fair play award and we are hoping to encourage more girls to take up the sport.”

Girls Football sessions at Kewford Eagles are open to girls aged 7 to 10 and take place at 11am every Saturday morning.
