DETERMINED Dudley Kingswinford athletes clocked up the miles this week when they took part in the classic Thunder Run 24 hour relay.

The event comprised of a 24 hour relay over an undulating 10km off road course in Catton Park which is situated on the Derbyshire-Staffordshire border.

The objective was to run as many laps as possible during a 24 hour period.

The race attracted entries in solo, pairs and teams of five, but the Blue Hoops were more interested in the mixed eight runner team category where they fielded four sides.

DK's A team of Matt Biggs, James Wright, Simon Blizzard, Dave Norman, Helen Tromans, Mark Homer, Mark Judge and Darrell Bodin hammered out lap after lap at an average of a fraction just over 45 minutes for each circuit.

They completed a total of 32 laps, a distance of nearly 200 miles, to take ninth place in a competitive field.

The B team of Graham Wildgoose, Richard Tonks, Rebecca Warren, Tracy Alderson, Lorna Hulme, Steve Wood, Kevin Duckworth and Kathryn Sneyd covered almost 175 miles and 28 laps to claim 28th place.

DK's C side of Andy Morrison, Sally McConville, Sarah Cox, Richard Jones, Pete Krivosic, Chris Wood and Nick Murphy completed 24 laps and almost 150 miles to finish in 107th place despite being a man down.

The D team of John Glover, Vanessa Morrison, Samantha Hemming, Ingrid Cain, Sarah Krivosic, John Gould, Cilla Harding and Wendy Martin covered just over 130 miles to claim 192nd place from the 239 teams taking part.
