OLD Hill gave their survival chances a huge boost with a four-wicket victory at Wellington last Saturday.

Home-side Wellington were bowled out for just 152 after Old Hill had won the toss and elected to field at The Croft.

Billy Cox (1-22) struck early to remove opener Dan Lloyd (8) before Monil Patel (1-31) sent Daniel Vaughan (21) packing.

Nigel Davenport then came to the party for the visitors to account for the wickets of Jamie Miller, Bhargav Merai and Wendell Wagner.

Davenport would eventually bag a four-wicket haul for the loss of just 38 runs.

In reply, skipper Danny Cox helped set up Old Hill’s successful chase with a solid 79 before being removed by Lloyd (1-39).

Wickets did fall early, however, as the visitors slipped to 28-5 before the Cox brothers settled the ship and guided their side home.

Billy Cox ended the game with an unbeaten 55.

Old Hill will look to continue their push for survival when they welcome fourth-from-bottom side Barnards Green to Haden Hill on Saturday (noon start).

Cox’s men now sit second-from-bottom just behind Bromsgrove with a 28-point deficit to make up heading into the last six games of the season in Division One of the Birmingham and District Premier League.
