GORNAL Athletic remain rooted to the bottom of the West Midlands Premier League after defeat at home to Wellington Amateurs last Saturday.

The Peacocks lost 2-0 at Garden Walk to make it four defeats from their opening four games this season under new boss Matt Whitehouse.

He said: “The first-half performance was the worst we have been all season, against the team I think is the weakest of the four we have played so far.

“I was really angry with the players and their general body language. It just wasn’t right.

“We improved in the second half but conceding the second goal killed the game for us.

“I don’t think we are miles away. We are a couple of weeks behind, but one win or even a scrappy point may just change our outlook.”

Whitehouse was missing five key men in Matt and Adrian Dove, Andy Cahill, Derrik Haffenden and Dean Humpage against Wellington.

All but Cahill are set to return this week.

Gornal will be on the hunt for their first points of the season at home to Shifnal tonight.

They will now face Black Country Rangers away on Saturday before welcoming Dudley Town to Garden Walk on Bank Holiday Monday.
