BLACK Country Triathletes secured a number of the podium places for the club's second sprint triathlon of the year.

The race, which took place last Sunday, saw over 250 athletes compete, both experienced and novice, with a 400m pool swim, 20km cycle followed by a 10k run.

Overall winners were Lee Moreton from Black Country who finished in 55.58 for the men and Jessica Harvey from Wrekin Tri Club in 1.04.44 for the women.

Black Country athletes Paul Rogers and Lauren Evans took second places, finishing in 58.01 and 1.06.57 respectively.

Club members also performed well in the various age group categories with all three top slots in the junior girls category taken by BCT athletes, Gemma Evans in 1.19.09, Holly Lewis 1.20.44 and Daisy Briscoe in 1.29.15. Ed Povey came third in in the junior boys race in 1.02.33.

Ben Monkton came first in the open category in 59.11. Karen Richards finished first for the ladies in the 40-49 age group in 1.12.51 with Samantha Paine second in 1.16.56, Neil Millward came in second for men in 1.01.48 and Nick Blackham second in 1.02.08.

In the 50-59 age group, Sue Payton was frist in 1.17.31, and in the 60 plus category Keith Bate took first place in 1.05.57 and Chris Pedley was second in 1.08.28 with Leah Coles taking second for the ladies in 1.37.40.

Further afield in Austria, Chris Wood was racing for Great Britain in the Tyrol Challenge Walchsee-Kaiserwinkle Ironman 70.3 World Championships. Woods finished 18th in his age group in a time of 4.46.40.
