THE fighting Charlesworth family from Lower Gornal have another world champion in their midst after 13-year-old daughter Kiyra followed in the footsteps of her mum Julie and brother Reuben by claiming her first title in Germany.

The Bishop Milner schoolgirl accompanied dad Jason and brother Reuben to the World Martial Arts Committee Championships where she beat opponents from Italy and Austrian to book her place in the final.

Kiyra faced a German Tae Kwon Do fighter for the title but the Lower Gornal girl out punched and kicked her rival to triumph.

Her 19-year-brother Reuben already has 12 world titles to his credit and duly underlined his status in both the individual and Grand Champion divisions by outclassing his opponents to make it a 13th world title.

Reuben now works as a full time instructor and is based at Halesowen Martial Arts Centre in Forge Lane, which was set up by dad Jason back in 1993 who said: "We have people coming to us from all over the country, Scotland to London, so they can train with Reuben, which is a great honour in itself.

"We also go into schools teaching martial arts working for both Dudley and Sandwell councils."

Jason insists he was modest in his own martial arts career, but met wife Julie through the sport and said: "Julie was a four times world champion herself and one of the most coveted fighters of her generation."

He added: "Germany was a good test for my two children. They are now preparing to compete in Italy and Romania soon, while Reuben is planning to fight in the USA next year.

"Both are on the lookout for sponsorship and if anyone would be interested they can contact me on 07889 627929."
