Stourbridge 3, Whitehawk 0

STOURBRIDGE continued their love affair with the FA Cup as they sent Whitehawk crashing out of the competition with another memorable night at Amblecote.

A double from striker Luke Benbow after Chris Lait's opener booked the Glassboys a place in the second round for the fourth time in six seasons.

Stour built on a good first half as they put their National League South opponents to the sword with a superb second half display in tonight's first round replay.

Stour started the evening brightly in front of a packed War Memorial Ground and were soon causing their visitors problems with the threat of Lait and fellow winger Matt Dodd.

The first chance fell to the home side on eight minutes when Dan Scarr met a Leon Broadhurst free kick to head back across the area. Lait couldn't react quick enough before keeper Adri Munoz punched clear under pressure from Kayleden Brown.

Whitehawk worked an opening on their own just four minutes later when Danny Mills raced through.

The forward got beyond the outrushing Gould but could only drag an effort into the side netting with the goal at his mercy. He could have even have gone down under the challenge of Gould but chose to stay on his feet.

Stour had a penalty shout of their own when a stray back pass put Munoz in trouble on 24 minutes. The stopper rode the first challenge of Lait before Dodd went down after trying to knock the ball away from the keeper.

It looked like Munoz got enough of the ball though and the ref quickly waved the appeal away.

Both sides took it in turns to build pressure in the final third but it was perhaps the home side that enjoyed the better possession.

Benbow had an effort blocked just after the half hour mark and then flashed an effort across the face of goal just before the break.

Though the half finished goalless there was plenty for Stour to build on after the break.

That was exactly what they did with a thrilling second half showing to send the Hawks crashing out.

The opener came on 51 minutes when Lait somehow found a gap to dribble his way into the area before rifling high past Munoz at his near post.

The Glassboys didn't have to wait long for the second on the hour mark.

It came from Lait again as he powered forward from a central position, played a quick one-two with Benbow before challenging with the keeper. The ball popped out of the challenge for Benbow to roll it home.

Whitehawk had no answer to Stour's threat in the final third or their work rate to keep winning the ball ball back in midfield with tenacious skipper Tom Tonks and experienced campaigner Leon Broadhurst.

The game was wrapped up by the brilliant Benbow on 76 minutes.

The forward won and then took a free kick in a central position about 25 yards out.

He lined it up before curling over the wall and past Munoz to send the packed Shed End into raptures.

A clash with League One side Northampton Town now awaits Gary Hackett's men after his side once again wrote another chapter in the club's ever-growing FA Cup history book.
