Stourbridge 5, Workington 0

SUPER Stour put smashed five goals in the opening half hour to brush aside Workington at Amblecote.

The Glassboys attacked from the word go to quickly dispel any idea that their focus was already on next Sunday's FA Cup clash with Northampton Town.

Dangerman Matt Dodd was at the heart of Stourbridge's early onslaught and soon made his presence felt when he cut inside Workington defender Gari Rowntree and was tripped as he raced through on goal.

Referee Sarah Garratt had no hesitation in pointing to the penalty spot where Luke Benbow duly slotted home.

Stourbridge made it 2-0 on 15 minutes when Dodd picked out Jordan Archer to head home his first ever goal for the club.

The score became 3-0 on 20 minutes when Jack Duggan headed Leon Broadhurst's free kick against the underside of Workington's crossbar. The ball bounced down and was partially cleared straight back to Duggan who fired home at the second attempt.

Dodd set up a fourth goal just three minutes later when crossing for the unmarked Kayelden Brown to convert at the far post.

Stourbridge struck a fifth goal on 27 minutes when Broadhurst lobbed a sublime pass over Workington's defence for Benbow to bury home a spectacular goal with a first time volley.

Not surprisingly, Stourbridge were in cruise control for the remainder of the game and could have increased the lead further when Brown blazed wide on 52 minutes with only Workington goalkeeper Aaran Taylor to beat.

Glassboys boss Gary Hackett said: "We treated this game no differently to any other because it was vital to get the three points.

"We've been threatening to do this for quite sometime and it's very satisfying when it comes off.

"We now have eight days to prepare for Northampton".
