STOURBRIDGE skipper Tom Tonks says the players gave their all in defeat against Wycombe Wanderers.

The Glassboys saw their FA Cup run ended at Adams Park with a late 2-1 defeat.

Adebayo Akinfenwa netted in the 83rd minute after defender Dan Scarr had cancelled out sub Sam Wood's early second half strike.

Tonks said: "One to 11 and then the subs that have come on, you couldn't ask for any more.

"It's fine margins in the end. The big man (Akinfenwa) has found a little bit of space for the first time in the match and put a clinical finish in.

"But I'm proud of all my boys and I couldn't wish for anything more in the performance.

"We've got players that can definitely play at a high level. That's not being biased to my team but there are some lads in that dressing room that, no disrespect to Stourbridge, probably shouldn't be playing at this level.

"We have just come up a little short but I'm proud of all of them.

"We are a very fit side and we can pride ourselves on that today. We do a lot of work throughout the week."

On the 2,000 travelling army of fans, he added: "You want to come to these places and put a performance in, especially for the fans.

"You could hear them from minute one through to the end. It's special for a non-league club to have something like that. Hopefully they keep turning up, especially at home games and we can try and make Amblecote a bit of a fortress and keep flying up the league."

Attention will quickly turn back to Stour's Northern Premier campaign and Tonks in confident this group of players can transfer their cup form to the league.

"It's off the scale how proud I am. I couldn't ask for anything more," he said.

"We've had a chat in the dressing room and the gaffer has said there is no reason we can't win the league now, never mind finish in the play offs. That's the aim now.

"We'll dust ourselves down because we've got some important games coming up."
