GORNAL Athletic boss Matt Fisher has been assured his job is safe regardless of if the Peacocks get relegated this season Club officials met with Fisher on New Year's Eve and offered their backing despite the fact Gornal sit rooted to the foot of the West Midlands Premier League without a single point.

The manager explained: "I have been told that I'll be the manager next season regardless of what division we are in. We sat down and it has all been agreed.

"It is a real positive because the backing takes the pressure off myself and the players because we all know the situation.

"Our aim is to develop our young players and that won't change just because of the level we're at.

"Everyone knows they are working to progress and improve as a group and be part of this club for the long-term."

Athletic's start to the new year continued where the previous left off as they crashed to another heavy defeat.

This time they lost 5-1 at Pegasus Juniors last Saturday.

However, Fisher was again pleased with how his players performed but left angry at a decision by the officials that he thinks cost his side the game.

He added: "We were behind at half time but had it all to play for and started the second half really well. The linesman has then let them take a throw in 30 yards further forward and that has caught us out. The ball was quickly put in the box and we conceded a penalty trying to get back.

"I was angry about it and from that point on our heads have dropped. That destroyed us.

"All we can do now is use that as our motivation and look to keep developing."

The Peacocks will now take on Smethwick at Garden Walk this Saturday (3pm kick-off).
